Symptoms

Fungal nail infections generally cause visual damage to nails. Nail infections commonly start in cracks in the nail tip and spreads down towards the base causing discoloring of the nail as it goes. This damage is caused by enzymes secreted by the fungi that break down the keratin of the nail.

Fungal nail infections can be spotted by certain symptoms as listed below:

  • White, yellow or brown discolouration
  • Thickening
  • Build-up of debris under the nail
  • Scaliness
  • Distorted shape of nail
  • Brittleness
